Terry, as Bavarian Brit says there are still quite a number of lock makers in the area but concerned with door and security locks. I once visited Chubb's factory for a tour of their works. Nothing on Gardiner but I did once own a Birmingham hammer gun with that name on. It was a typical product of the Midland Gun Company. I bought the gun which was one thou out of proof on the right barrel but with plenty of wall thickness. I had it re-proofed and the chambers lengthened for 2 3/4" cartridges. I sold the gun on after I had given it a little bit of use but then the left barrel burst whilst the new owner had it. I submitted it back to the Proof House for a report and they concluded that the barrel had been fired with an obstruction. A sad end to a nice gun. Luckily no injuries. It burst just forward if the forend. Lagopus.....
