Not worth the effort. One of the best heavy duty comp guns available on the planet is a 30" Model 686 Sporting. I paid $1100 for my last one, new. You won't approach that price if you start trading parts. A short barrel 686 with field rib is an $800 gun in most markets. The Sporting stock, wide rib, and 30" barrels make all the difference in the world in a shooting gun, but you will pay a couple hundred more for that combination.
