I can see some light at the end of the tunnel with my Elsie project, and the next thing I would like to do is construct a motor case. My dad has an incredible wood shop, and I am a decent "wood butcher." As such I am not as concerned with the actual wood construction as with how I am going to cover it (I want to use canvas) and finish off the corners. To be honest I would like to avoid learning to be a seamstress to do this, but if that is what it take so be it. Are there any tutorials or "how to's" posted online anywhere? Has anyone else done this and been pleased with the results (pics?).
Thanks, CHAZ

Save yourself the aggrevation and go to Jeff's Outfitters, They have good quality motor cases in all leather or canvas and leather.

There is just something about "doing it yourself." I bought a beautiful LC Smith with (almost) nothing that needed to be done to it to shoot and enjoy it. I had to buy another one (a junker) just so I could work on one. CHAZ
I have to admit, I do look around at gun shows figuring if I get one for a steal I would grab it up.

I know what you mean it's nice restoring / building them..I don't have the time...all my time is spent on the guns themselves T

You might look around for a vintage case, and then satisfy your case jones by refitting the interior to fit your gun. Good practice with fabric and leather before you try a case from scratch.

You can contact FEI here and they will make one up to fit your gun. I had a regular style case made by them and it fit like a glove and get a lot of good comments. They have a web site.

Hoof: Why, in the name of good reason, do you want a motor case? If made to traditional design, and the latch fails, they are about 100% more likely to dump your gun onto the pavement than a good trunk case. The lift handle of a motor case is on the lid of the case. And if your latch fails, you'd better have some good security straps to keep your Purdey/Holland/Boss from becoming one with Mother Earth.
As you may gather, I hate the bloody things. But suit yourself.
Best, Kensal

Best, Kensal Don't sugar coat it, tell me how you really feel. LOL I didn't really consider that aspect of their design. I wanted a motor case for the novelty of it, and I was thinking of a double case which seems to me better proportioned in a motor case. Plus if you see me carrying a Purdey or Holland and Holland around call the police, it's stolen! Thanks, CHAZ
