Shot bobs this morning with a gent that had his great uncles A1 special 20 in the scabbard. First thought when I saw the fantastic wood sticking out that it was a repro, but not after he pulled it out.
It was a joy to hold and stocked perfect for me. I've seen guns get crushed in scabbards that broke or got stuck up the wrong end of a horse so I made sure he knew the value. He was well aware and said "my uncle bought this gun to use, and that is what I'm doing with it." His uncle gave him all his guns after he died, but, this one he gave him before his last day!
It was a great pleasure to hold such a fine rare gun, thought I'd share it.

It's nice to see that the gent is using his A1 Special for it's intended use. I to would not use a scabbard but to each his own. You are a fortunate one to look and hold such a nice gun. Thanks for sharing. Gordon

Good thing his Uncle didn't leave him a Deusenberg or he'd be parking it between a minivan and a Tahoe at the mall....

About using an A 1 Special as it should be used, I bought two dozen of the last of Cliff Arvan's whistler and bluebill decoys in the 60s at a little gunshop on Yonge Street in Toronto for $3.50 apiece.
I gave a dozen to my brother who put them away in the attic where they still are, and he rolls his eyes as I use them for what they were made for, even at current collector value of $1,000 apiece.
We may look at them and die or use them and die. With the fun of it gone, my brother no longer hunts. The inheritor of the A 1 Special honors his uncle. Quill's notice of it here warms my heart.

King, there's many days in between hunts, on those off days, things are just good to look at and handle. Hunt 'em, look at and enjoy them - and then die!

There's nothing wrong with using any Parker for hunting....but a gun can be used without ab-use. Carrying an A1 in scabbard is more than likely abuse.

I'm sure he would speak to you about it if otherwise needed. BTW, it was about 45 and windy behind a strong front and the birds were wild as hell! Just N. of Fl line.
