Hello Greg, It looks like 100% period correct engraving to me. The semi-local's engravers got close, but didn't touch this one. Most likely a transition gun that was probably in progress upstairs in WHG's area when the move north came. Some of these 4wt barreled high grades were built with grouse cover friendly weights. I would ask the weight, and if it along with the wood's figure and dimensions trip your switch, make a reasonable, non offensive offer, as it appears to be a nice respectable refinished gun. Just make sure the SST is functioning correctly, both with snap caps and under recoil with non pansy trap loads, after its restocking. A letter might help with the timing of the Savage markings and proof and its build and/or ship date. Good Luck and Always Remember Life is Good, Treat it With Respect!
