On another post, I stated that I had bought a Superposed Lightning Trap and could see nothing to do to it but shoot it. Then on closer examination, I found the bottom firing pin pitted and appeared to naked eye a bit long cf. to pins in another Super of similar vintage. I had both pins remaining in a Midwest parts kit so I pulled the hammer springs and struts, hammers, and pins, and replaced. Couple clues to what might be going on: 1) retaining pin bottom barrel shaved a bit possibly by not rotating the retaining notch into the right position before driving in pin so I thought perhaps the replacement pin was never reduced to max spec'd length and maybe I'm repeating this mistake myself. 2) No gap between hammers and action bar wall with hammers down (Arnold MO. repair material says gap should be 2-3 thou and if there isn't it is result of worn or bent cocking lever). However, the pins are over spec by more than a couple thousandths--more like .010" over. I'm not going to tackle the cocking lever bend procedure right now but I would like to know what is SOP for reducing length of pins? Can I grind them at rear (maintaining the hammer strike angle of course) or should I reduce the OAL from the striker end?
