I found the Galazan guard had a different thread...The stub can be replaced with a section of 10-32. I also found it was narrower than the bottom tang of the Fox I had in hand. Had I continued, I would have had to file the tang narrower in order to hide it under the guard. The bow is wider and not very "Foxy"....aesthetics.
As to lengthening the originals, the best job I've seen had cut the tail off very close to the back of the bow. The more common approach is to cut less off. This puts the weld joint smack in the middle of the tang and discrepancies in color are more obvious.
