This example of the empire grade is indeed plain, but not unattractive and head and shoulders above any maker's lowest grade I've seen as far as balance and handling. In fact its hard to believe it's nearly eight pounds of doublegun in your hands.
This one has issues and is going back, a shame because the stock dimensions are perfect and it handles well (for me) to boot.
The search continues, but I'm not ruling out an Empire for my duckboat gun.

Greener seemed to have an interest in proofing his guns for more shot than was the norm. I have had a pair of 2 1/2 " guns proofed for 1 1/4 oz shot. I have seen many others like this.

I was under the impression, from Graham Greener's book "The Greener Story", that the Empire was an action model not a grade. I believe the model came in a number of grades...Geo

Once last thing before letting this thread die...why would someone go to the effort and/or expense of tightening a doublegun action without putting it back fully on face? Is it that much more work to do it correctly?
