Can't remember which gun it was or which cartridges but I had this problem a few years ago and it was totally ammunition dependent. It was like the firing pins got stuck in the soft primer brass.

I was thinking of posing the question of ammo, but he never mentioned that the gun was new, so I thought he was just shooting the same stuff he would have normally shot without any trouble. The changed variable seemed to be the replaced firing pin.

Put in some snap caps, drop the hammers, then open the gun while holding it under a bright lamp to see when your pins start to retract. If they start back immediately it isn't timing. Try them with a pair of fired hulls and see what happens. Deep pin holes and drag marks?

Timing really should not be an issue, since a lot of Doubles do not start cocking until the breech is open at least a littel bit, whereas your resistance of the pins in the primers is giving you a problem right when the breech is tried to be opened.
