There is a 16 gauge hammergun on Gunbroker right now. It says it is italian, but the barrels say Krupp Steel. That sounds german, austrian, or belgium to me. It looks like a good gun, almost like the bernardelli hammerguns.

Can anyone tell me about this gun? Thanks for the help.

It was not made for the Italian market, as it does not have sling swivels on it.

Really need better pictures of the flats to see the markings.

Krupp is a well known German steel maker who supplied a lot of barrel stock to the gun trade. You can find Krupp barrels on all sorts of guns, including American.

If it were a Bernardelli, it would bear the name.

It appears the seller values the gun more than it is worth.

It looks very much like a number of Italian hammerguns I've seen, including Bernardelli and Beretta marked ones. The sidelock plate has that extension in the front into which the screw is placed, which you see on a number of Italian hammerguns from that time period. There was a Beretta on one of the for sale sites for a while which looked almost identical, except for the engraving. Might still be up if you do a search.

That looks, except for age, very much like my 1930s-vintage Bernardelli "Italia". Seems modern, tho; do the three stars on the flat have anything to do with a modern "generic" brand called "Tri-Star" which, I think sold guns by several Italian makers (and later, a Turkish maker?)? Or is that a choke marking?

I think the stars are the chokes of the barrels. I've got some pics of the lettering on the bottom of the reciever and barrel that I'll post up. I would like it a whole lot better if it had a straight grip. Does anyone know what it would cost on average to make it a straight grip?

Thanks

That gun is most certainly Italian. This design was built by many of the Italian makers: Beretta, Bernardelli, Siace, MI-VAL, and others. The examples from Bernardelli are the most common.

I have actually have a 12ga for sale now (pictured below) that is the same basic gun as the 16ga posted above.

Here is a 20ga Bernardelli that I once had. Notice the similarities?

Bernardelli still builds hammerguns today using this same exact action design.
