We've discussed the propensity for Smith stocks to crack related to the relatively small surface area at the head of the stock + oil soaking   compared to the boxlock Fox (ready for staple repair by DT)  NID  and Parker  The lateral view of the sideplated boxlock Lefever suggests a similar paucity of wood surface, but the guns don't have the same reputation for cracks  Could someone please post an 'end on' pic of the head of the stock of a Lefever for comparison?

Pretty sure that Lefever is Dustins, and he fessed up to putting the spring in bass-ackward.
Funny, whenever I bring up cracked Elsie's, I get told I'm imagining all of them. The number of "olde reliable's" I've seen with a bolt through the head has got to be in the hundreds, but, people still persist in calling them "olde reliable".

There is no telling what loads have been shot through any of those guns. When you put two tons of fertilizer in a truck designed to carry one ton you may wind up in deep $hit.

Parkers usually come apart in 4 or 5 pieces. From my experience of smacking a friends dog over the head with mine. Not a good decision. Drew, I don't think I have any examples of broken guns in the types you ask for. But, I am sure there are some.

i wonder if the old guns were treated like my first double that took me down this long slippery slope of side locks.the guy that i got mine {a meridan which i still have}from used to clean the barrells with a rag swapped in hoppes and squirt oil down the firing pin holes and stand it in the corner until the next hunting trip.he was probably mid fifties at the tyme and had the gun since he was 16.i wonder how many squirts went in that gun?? tom ps yes the stock was cracked too.

Drew, yes, that is how my Parker looked. It took some time to find all the metal and wood pieces in the weeds.
