Many thanks to Bill Kraft for this G grade Lefever. Much greater wood surface area than the Smith.
Would like to see a Baker which were a bit heavier guns than Smiths

Actually the Lefevers have much more solid wood behind the receiver than most other sideplate/lock guns. Drew Hause's photo abover shows this. L.C. Smith might have some of the least amount of wood out of them all. Crescents and bakers have a bit more than L.C.'s but not much.

As stated, not as many Lefevers are broken to bits than others, and I think it has something to do with the fact that there is more wood in the front. And this is mostly to do with the fact that they are not side lock guns. Since the hammers are in the frame up front, the stock needs a lot less wood removed for clearance of moving parts.

Yes, the Lefever was mine, it now belongs to a well known gunsmith, I wont say his name here but it rhymes with "En ewless". And yes, I was the dumbo that put the sear spring in upside down, I only did it that way cause' our friend Reb87 told me too ;-) and it looked right to me, at the time...until we tore another Lefever apart to see if we put my gun back together right, it's a learning process :-) And not that it mattered anyway, it didnt change the trigger pulls and gun functioned just fine they way I put it in, clever eh? Ok maybe not, but it was a fun day spent out at Reb87's farm anyway!
