Larry, Thanks again for the phone number! This 17 has a solid rib, 18 points of choke and is in pretty nice shape. It is an older one. I included a picture on a plain barrel 17 that has the word Remington on the reciever instead of on the slide. I have a deluxe stock and forend off a parts gun that I plan to put on this one. My new dove/pigeon blaster!

My solid rib gun also has REMINGTON on the slide.

Mine has it on the side, along with the Pederson's Patent notation on the barrel-only later guns have that.
Mine is a checkered 17, one of just a few I have seen over the years. Best, Ted

It's a peach in the rough and getting spoiled but he can't make up his mind to sell. It's a 17E. Maybe time to up the offer. What do you think it's worth in that condition? Bore and mechanics are good.

Rob,
I love seeing that 17E. It's the only one I've seen. I've always wondered where the higher grade 17s are! I suppose alot of the value depends on how deep the pitting on the outside and what the inside of the action and bore look like. If it was just surface rust (able to clean up with 0000 steel wool) than I'd offer $750 which is probably low. Like I said it's the only one I've seen!
The wood I have to put on mine has that same checkering pattern but is pretty straight walnut. I have to add 2" onto the stock first but the checkering is in nice shape.
Ted, the one I just purchased is a 28,000 number and dates 1924 per the DR stamped on the barrels. The other one is 66,000 and marked AZ which I think is 1936 if I recall.
I wonder if your gun was a post 37 gun? Per Remington, they had enough parts left after Ithaca started the 37s that they put together guns and sold them till 41'.
My solid rib, cold blued, polychoked 17 is 47,000 and does not have the Remington on the slide.
Tim
