Can anyone tell me when the boxlock gun was proofed?
What else can be gleaned from the markings?
Thanks!

2 & 3/4" chambers with 3 tons of proof and I notice it's also proofed at 850 bar....the question is not when or where it was proofed but is it still in proof.

In proof terms, what exactly is "bar"?

I'm having trouble reading some of the proofmarks, but if it's 850 bars, the equivalent--per the Birmingham Proofhouse--is slightly less than 11,000 psi service pressure. That's the important thing about that mark. A bar=14.5 psi, but you can't do the math in this case because the system the Brits use for measuring proof pressure (crusher) does not directly convert to psi.

Do the crossed swords in the smaller picture tell the year of proofing?

I enlarged the image and tried to enhance it to make the marks easier to read- hope it worked.

Can't quite make it out as the photo is up-side-down and maybe back to front. If it is RB it is 1966 and will be the re-proofing date. If you can read them and let me know I can give you the date more accurately. Lagopus.....

In the swords are the letters- K I and the number 2. Or at least that is what it looks like to me. This is a gun I am interested in buying and I don't have it in hand.
