Anyone have an idea on the age of this gun or quality. Seems like a nicely made English double. Great condition.

Nice percussion double! Wood doesn't look that fancy, but the earlier percussion guns were often less ornate than the Edwardian era.

It looks as if there are pin holes in the blow-out plugs, which I would place in the early 1850's. Solid blow-out plugs were more 1830's, and were often dispensed with after 1840 something. (My expertise is not infallible).

Hammer skirt cut-outs looks appear very similar to an early 1850's double I own. But, some other features (such as drop points)on mine look more modern in style than yours.

Looks to be a mid quality gun in fair to good condition....just from looking at the pictures I wouldn't get too deep in it.

What is the mark right toward the breech of the left tube in the last photo? I recognize the Birmingham view and proof marks further up. is this a maker mark?

I'll take a close look and get back to you. Gun is not with me right now. How will I know if it's a makers mark. I was told it is a George Perkins and it is marked Perkins on the lock.

I'm interested in your fair assessment. For a 160 year old gun, it looks good compared to the longrifles I'm used to looking at from the same era. What are you basing that on?

I'm basing my assesment on what I see and similiar guns I've owned.....if you like it, feel it's safe to shoot then buy it.

Myself I wouldn't put over 6 to 8 hundred in it.
