Sounds like it might work for me. Thanks, Replacement.

Yeah, any safety gear that is not convenient or functional will not get used.

Stan, take a look at this one. Not the same as mine, but the same general idea.

Good luck and God's prayers

The off chance he's in the weeds somewhere and the power of prayer is why we're still looking. The authorities are still classifying the search as a rescue operation so its still going full blast...Geo

P.S. I just ordered three of the Stearns life jackets!

About 8 years ago myself and another fellow turned over a canoe in January while duck hunting. Both of us had wader's on (neoprene) and fortunately we were only about 15 feet from shore. The water temp was 38 that day and the air temp was 26 degree's. I made the shore within 30 seconds. My buddy almost didn't make it. Neither of us had life preservers on. I said my prayers that night as did my buddy. Bottom line, is we both count our lucky stars as it could have been much much worse. Guess your learn your lesson or you don't. We did. My prayers are certainly extended in this case.

I ordered them in "taupe"; my wife said that was brown. Hope she's right...Geo

Taupe is a medium gray-brown. If it's the same color as mine, it will work right out of the box. If you don't like the color, just spray paint it with something like Krylon Fusion, which is a spray paint specially formulated to stick to plastic (like the nylon or polyester shell of the vest). I just camo'd a red and black nylon frame pack so that I could carry decoys and such over long distances, and the Fusion works OK, but needs a quick touch-up after each couple of trips. Should be fine on a vest, and you can find it in earth colors at WalMart.

I have one of the Sterns mentioned before with the mesh shoulders in dark blue. I hit it with some rust oleum camo and a mud/water mixture out of a spray bottle, works awesome in the Kayak. The Fusion paint worked great on the kayak!! I hope that tragedy can be avoided. More prayers and good luck!

Yes, we've got to remember to go easy on the 17 year old boy. Think of moments in your own lives; a calm stituation can turn topsy-turvy in .3 of a second and pure panic adrenaline gets pumped into the system in the next .1 of a second. It's all too easy to go completely blank and all is lost by the end of that second.

By the grace of God, this boy somehow made it ashore and, as someone suggested, is lost in overwhelming weeds and trying desperately to find his own way out. A boy at 17 is trying to prove he's a man, one who relies on himself. Bearing this in mind, this scenario is plausible.

This kind of thing is a knife to the heart. I think it's safe to say we're all praying in our own ways for the boy and his family. Let's still hope as well.
