Just sold my 2" chamber vintage English sxs, traded for a 2 3/4" chambered vintage English sxs. I have several leftover boxes of RTS 2" shells. Can I shoot these from my new gun? Any risks?

Yes, no different than shooting 2 3/4 out of a 3 1/2in gun.

You can shoot SHORTER SHELLS in a LONGER CHAMBER but not LONGER SHELLS in a SHORTER CHAMBER.

I use 2" Gamebore 20ga loads in my 2 3/4 inch Arrieta sll the time, they pattern well and hit hard.

I think you'll get disagreement with that statement as Sherman Bell reported in the DGJ.

Yep.....Here we go again smile
At one time I remember reading that it wasn't such a good idea to shoot shells SHORTER than the chambers of the gun, that the wads would get messed up??? not my idea , but hey?

Drive up to Westchester and I'll trade you 2-3/4" for the 2"!

I have heard and read that there have been problems with 2" shells having the shot "ball" into almost a solid mass when shot in longer chambers. Theory is that escaping gases cause the problem because the wad can not create a gas seal in the chamber and the hot gases cause the shot to almost weld into a solid or semi solid mass. Never seen it or done it myself. Sold my 2" gun and still have a few boxes of reloads on hand. Best to ask a few of the members here from Great Britain if this is truth or just another urban legend.

An 'Urban Legend' from the early 20th century shells that still persists to this day. I have a 2" Tolley and have used 2" Gamebore shells out of a 12 gauge Darne for many years with no problems. I will sit and shoot 2" modern Gamebore shells all day out of any 12 I own if someone pays for the shells.-Dick

A Model 12 magazine will hold a bunch of those things and they actually function well with the 2" shells if I remember correctly. I can't remember how many you can actually get in there. I have tried them in an A-5 and it didn't work.

Use 2" RST shells in a Poli Pigeon Gun as my preferred load.
Very solid breaks on targets and excellent results on live quarry.
Can't see how 2" shells would cause an issue in a 2 3/4" chamber.
