Too many shooters still believe that 2 3/4" chambers is license to shoot SAAMI loads.
So, I am finding this discussion interesting. I have a H&H Northwood (basically a Webley 700) which is 3", proofed 3 1/2 tons, and a Greener 2 3/4", proofed 3 1/4" tons. I shoot modern 2 3/4" Federal/Winchester/etc. in both. Is this ok, or not a good idea? Both guns are fairly heavy and 1950's or 60's vintage.
Rocketman, if those are the guns to which you are referring, they're both post-WWII. Can't speak for the Greener without more information, but the Webley & Scott 700 is both post-WWII design and post-WWII production. Personally, I tend to err in the direction of lighter, lower pressure and slower loads. But I don't know there's any real difference between the traditional steel those Webleys are made out of and the steel that, say, an SKB imported by Ithaca was made out of. Same time frame.
