Hi all, just curious, what would the total cost be to send a gun to Birmingham to have it re-proofed? Talking shipping, VAT, the whole nine yards.
Has anone on this board ever done this, and what was the experience like?
Thanks as always!
Greg

I ship to the UK regularly with the Teague lining shipments. It is cost prohibitive for one gun, to say the least. My last invoice for just the return shipping was nearly 400 pounds sterling and that is only shipping for one segment. Additional fees are levied for an agent to clear the guns from UK customs and for trhe inbound shipping segment. It is a real mess now days. Try woodcock hill as I believe they offer this as a service. If you are unable to come up with a satisfactory figure, let me know and I may be able to help.

On a vintage gun it's not going to prove much.

Why would you want to do such a thing?

I think it would be cheaper to buy airline ticket and take them over yourself if you were doing a pair of guns. Would be a fine trip if you could arrange it to be done while you were there and take a tour of the proofhouse. Say a three day stay. Think about the fun you could have with three days to drool over all the doubles for sale over there. OR better yet time it so you can look over one of the auction houses guns before an auction.

Please remember proof testing is destructive testing. Guns are submitted at the owner risk. The proof houses accept no responsibility for damage ,or any results of proof failure ,such as bulges or blown barrels, cracked actions etc. A gun smith submitting a gun on behalf of a client is entitled to payment for any prior work done to the gun ,to prepare for submission to proof.Irrespective of the out come.
