Sure doesn't appear to be a monobloc gun, does it? Might be a complete "one off" custom. Nice.
Best, Ted

One of the interesting things about this gun is the 70mm (2-3/4") chambers. Just made for gaugemate gold 10 gauge to 12 gauge chamber reducers. Otherwise, handloads are needed.
Thanks, JC and Regards, Tim

Wow! Thats a supprise! The two of those pretty babys are mine and I did'nt even know they where exibited here!??? In fact the ten gage is'nt mine anymore since I sold it but the 12 is in my safe for sure!... Or should I go check! Lol! Both of these ARE P17 wich are a transition model from the R to the V model. The P serie was dropped in 1950 and Darne went on with the R and V models. Darnes were'nt always built exactly the same. They updated the construction of their guns with every patent they aquired. The first sliding breech model came from the 1893 patent but the "long key" (P and V models) came from the 1897 patent, but only V models where produced under this patent. The P model, came with the 1906 patent. Only two P's where produced; the P17 and the P18. Both considered to be better than there big sister the V19. It was them slightly modified with the 1922 and 1928 patent. Ok, I'll go check my safe now!... Lol... Max

Interesting to see the note just below the DARNE stamp on the flats that reads, "Brevete - S.G.D.C." or "Patent - S.G.D.C." Might that mean that the gun was made under license? Regards, Tim

No, Tim. The very first Darnes were made with other companies barrels, that stamp showed up about the time they started producing their own. You don't find it on later guns-They sure put a ton of information on the barrels flats, didn't they? It says "Cannons Frettes" and "Sans Soudure" (monobloc barrels without braze) but, I don't see a clear line where the monobloc and barrels would come together. I suppose a reblue or two could have removed that. Sure is a neat old gun.
Best, Ted

Here's the line Ted, Easier to see on top side of barrels. They engraved them so it would look better!

Max, welcome to the Board and thanks for the clarification on the P17 designation.
Best,
JC
