I called CSMC on Friday and found out that my gun order should be sent to the floor this week.
My gun was ordered with standard wood and I would like to here from those who have received or seen these guns.
The obvious question is: "Should I upgrade or stick with my original 2x wood"?

Upgrade, you won't regret a higher quality wood. What timber do you want?

I think you just have to follow your own heart on this one. Upgrading wood beyond the rest of the gun seems pretty odd. If youa are aiming for an American meat gun, you wouldn't want to stock it with 5x English or Turkish. But then you wouldn't put generic black on a gun that is otherwise a landed gent's gun.
For reasons I don't understand a lot of rifle shooters put very fancy walnut on Sharps rifles - seems completely out of place to me, and I guess what I'm trying to say is keep everything in proportion - whatever that means to you.

I had only one true regret about my RBL order and that was not upgrading the wood. I paid for my frugality in the beginning with very plain wood as a result. IMHO upgrade, even if it's only one level. Joe

Some who've received their RBLs with wood upgraded to exhibition have been disappointed with what the additional $700 got them. My order originally was for 3x and now is for 4x California English. I'm thinking of dropping down to 3x again. Sight unseen, it's a roll of the dice whether you'll be happy with what you get. I just wish they'd make and ship it so I can stop working this damn thing over!

If I upgraded, it would be to American walnut. I have always liked the look of A.W. best.

Personally I would stay with the regular grade wood. It is a proven fact, the fancier the wood, the less likely you are to take the gun out in the field and the more you will baby it if you ever do get out where it belongs. I see it all the time and it's a shame some otherwise decent field guns are relegated to sitting in a safe because their owners think the wood is too nice to hunt with.

Some, me for example, ordered Exhibition wood, specified exactly what they wanted in figure and color and recieved exactly what they wanted. A piece that I could have not purchased on the open market for the price. -Dick

I upgraded solely so that I could choose American black Walnut, which seemed the appropriate choice for an American sxs. I'm very pleased with the wood on my RBL.
