I have purchased 1963 vintage SL gun which has been test fired and left in storage since that time. I have cleaned up old oil residue on the outside. Can anyone suggest craftsman who cold strip, clean, and lubricate lock work for me. I live in Richmond Virginia. Thanks.

I wouldn't suggest taking a lock apart just to clean it.

I've used carburetor cleaner along with brushes followed up with compressed air to get locks as clean as you are going to get them by taking them apart.

I agree that lock disassembly isn't necessary here. Remove the locks and trigger assembly as well. I use CLP for cleaning and lubrication but other product will work. My recommendation would be to spray the parts liberally and then blow the residue out with compressed air.

What leads you to believe the inner bits NEED cleaning? If the gun works, then I'd leave it alone. Especially if you don't have the correct turnscrews and the experience to dismount the locks and trigger plate without buggering things up.

If the gun is Spanish, then I'd really think twice before mucking with it.

I dont believe he ever said that he was planning to do the work himself. I think he was asking for recommendations for a qualified gunmaker to do a full strip and clean. I could recommend several guys who do a full strip and clean (i.e. full disassembly of the entire gun not just the locks, ultra sonic cleaning of lock parts, internals, action and forend with mild degreaser, polishing of pitted parts, fire blue pins and screws if requested, lubed and reassembled). If this is what you are looking for, here are a couple of names that will do you right. Keep in mind, for the type of strip and clean I just described, it will cost in the neighborhood of $200 to $300.

Alas, I finally get to know where W KNIEI is!

P.S.: If done by a professional, I see only good in stripping, cleaning and lubricating
a gun that has been in storage for a long time.jc
