Have 2 P Mullin 8 Ga Doulbles with 4 1/4 in chambers with
Cannon breeches-(reinforced for 6 inches then quickly tapers to nornal 8 ga size). Have info from Greener's "THE GUN" about
8 ga guns with 3 3/4 in chambers-nothing longer. Any knowledge
about 4 1/4 in? Any written info?
Both 40 in Jones Underlevers -one 15 1/4 lbs , other 17 3/4 lb
the later with 2 1/2 lbs of lead in butt.
Also P Mullin 10 ga Cannon Breech 4 in chamber?

Bill, I can't help you on the long chambers. For what it's worth, I have a P. Mullin , cannon breech 10 gauge, with 2 7/8" chambers.

My UMC catalogues from 1903 thru 1915/16 all offer their 8-gauge paper cases in 3 1/4, 3 1/2 and 4 inch lengths. By the 1918/19 catalogue they only offer 3 1/4 inch. They also carry the note that they are for bulk powders only. UMC doesn't show any 8-gauge hulls for dense smokeless powders.

Yes, they did make a 4 1/4" chambered gun and Eley made the cartridges. I will get a photo of one of the cartridges from my collection and post it in due course. If you can get a copy of a book called 'The Modern Fowler' by James Wentworth Day he talks of using his Tolley 4 1/4" 8 bore which he christened Roaring Emma. The 4" and 4 1/4" guns would fire up to 3 ounces. A sort of Magnum 8 bore. Lagopus.....

Daryl, I know of another Mullin 10 Ga Cannon Breech 2 7/8-also
a 10 Ga M/L with the same
George -have a "few" smaller Ga guns
Dave, good to know 4 in shells were in demand enough to make
them commercially availablr

No to that. The longest 10 bore chamber guns here were, I think, 3". I do have a 3 1/4" brass 12 bore round though. Lagopus.....

My big Eley's are
8 = 3.25
4 = 4
0 = 8.25
Anyone have an idea of the value of the "0" ?
