Hi, try this address: admin@internetgunclub.com

John (Smith) is very helpful and the site is a great one, but they are revamping it and it's taking longer than they expected to get the changes done.

All the best and Good Luck!!!

Greg

Hi Greg,

After Ogden, Smith & Hussey got out of the gun business H.H. Hussey or at least his good will went on to form Harrison & Hussey. Cogswell & Harrison is the current iteration of that chain of firms and they DO have some Hussey records. They are on the web and they do respond to inquiries.

Overall, I find the Brits to be very patient and willing to give out information on there old guns liberally.

I'm confident more clues can be uncovered
As to the history of the rook rifle in question.

I may have more info on your guns in another reference.

My current references say curious things like the following:

Some of the Lang & Hussey guns had the name removed and were re serial numbered.

- if it were a Lang it would be between 1905 @ 13789 and 1910 starting at 14815.

In 1919 Harrison & Hussey started with serial 1000 and in 1929 at 3466. It then says in 1930 the numbers merged with Grant & Lang at 17000.

IF these guns listed were honoring the Lang & Hussey numbering system, this would be true:

1906 began with 13983
1907 with 14268
1908 with 14593

I think those dates would be pretty good rough estimates accounting for the fact guns could sit unfinished for some period of time.

I also think a date could be triangulated using Abercrombie and Fitch records since I've seen a lot of Husseys imported by then circa 1910 and they didnt have custom serial numbers.

I should mention, I have a beautiful Lang & Hussey 12 bore sidelock ejector for sale in a matching case with original charge card, maker's label and oil bottle. I love the gun but I need a 16-3/4 LOP and I can justify either A. Making a new stock, or B. Butchering the gun by putting on a hideous 2"+ pad.

Serial number 13002, origination certificate from Atkins, Grant & Lang with original owner's name and specs too. Fun gun, definitely a best gun mechanically, even if the engraving is simple.
