And stop mutilating those lovely old guns with choke alterations and forcing cone bullshit promoted by work-starved gunsmiths! Buy or make scatter loads! Easier to do than meddling with chokes and forcing cones. What's next? Porting? Chopperlump

Hey Humpty

Had to do a google search to find out what a collimator sight was. Afraid it would give me an unfair advantage in the woodcock coverts laugh grin

Nikos, the link does not work but I suggest you go to the photo you want to display at Photobucket, click once on the bottom of the four lines under the picture and then come back to the quick reply box and press control and the letter v at the same time and it should display a bunch of words. that bunch of words is the location of the picture for this site to go to so it can find it. Hit the preview Reply button at the bottom of the quick reply box and you can see the picture. You don't need to do that for it to work but if you are not happy you can delete it.

I don't have any of the above ....but have had a few lovely Belgian guns..Francottes mostly.
But I've always thought that a fine Belgian is right up there with the best of the best IMHO
That ELG stamp is not always the kiss of death some see it to be:)

If you're going to do much close range shooting (skeet; grouse and woodcock; for that matter, pretty much any upland game over good dogs) there are a lot of good reasons for "choke alterations". Vintage guns, more often than not, came pretty tightly choked from the factory. And since many of them didn't carry any choke markings to start with, who's to know if they've been altered, assuming the barrel smith does a good job? Spreader loads are fine, if you want to retain tighter chokes for other purposes and aren't doing much close range shooting. But especially with a modern, 2 3/4" chambered gun, shells are WAY cheaper if you don't have to buy spreaders. Of course you can reload using some of the Polywad discs, although reloading for the 16 is not as user-friendly as it is with the 12, 20, or even 28. Shoot some patterns; open 'em however you want 'em, and buy off the shelf ammo to save money.

The man who has it done. That's who. Or doesn't that matter? That statement can be taken as suggesting deception, Larry. I don't want to think you meant it that way. I want to believe you would tell any prospective buyer that the chokes had been altered, even without them asking.

You can't trust the chokes on an older gun, marked or not. I dislike open chokes, and always measure the chokes in a FTF transaction, or confirm the chokes upon arrival on internet transactions. Many sellers just don't know what they are selling.
