Those traces of color around the fences smack of much good use and sound character-I, too, would leave it alone.
It is perfect, just the way it is.

I had the same issue with my Flues.
I decided to leave and give it a good wiping after use. I have had no rust after 5 years of use. It is a shooter and gets in the field often.
I have used several cold blues and while I think it has its place I did not think this was it.
BTW, I too like Singer sewing machine oil.
My Flues is a 16 ga. and perhaps my favorite gun. Use it and enjoy.

Just in case my previous post may be misleading, I find cold blueing would render
it ugly. I would also leave it be.

Leave it alone, Chuck is right on this one, while it may build up some discoloration/plumb color it is far better that way (in the eyes of most) than a polished shiney receiver or one with cold blue smeared on it. Leave it be, leave it be, please leave it be....

Why would you want to cheapen your gun by coloring it with cold blue? Why would you want to hide or polish off the character that took 80 years to acquire? Enjoy it as it is... used but not abused. Very lightly clean it and oil it to preserve what is still there and to prevent rusting. Then take it hunting with low pressure loads and add your own share of honest wear. And when you and the dog stop and take a breather, you can look at it and think of the hunters who carried it before you, and the days it spent afield, and the game it has taken. When you are out hunting with your friends and their shiny pumps and autoloaders, smile and know you have the coolest gun in the group. Then when you are too old to hunt with it anymore, pass it on to someone who will appreciate it just the same.
