The pin helped dramatically, but, it did not cure all that ailed that gun. Mr. Orlen put a quick shim on the hook, which finished the fix your pin started. Lever went back to the right side, where it belongs.
Gun resides with a good friend these days, and sees use with 2 1/2 Vintagers 12 gauge loads. If a Tobin has never seen big pressure loads, all seems well. Few fall into that camp, in my humble experience. I, like Tom, also believe the guns end up bent in the frame when abused with hot loads, and have seen way too many of them that are loose.

Which of the Tobins are of the best quality, the US made or Canadian made?

I haven't seen a big difference in quality in either. Good examples from both sides of the border. You pretty much get pre WWI quality all the way up until Crandall washed his hands of them and carted what was left off to the dump.
That said, a Tobin is an example of a bad gun design. Smokeless big loads spell their doom.

I briefly owned a 12 ga. Woodstock-made Tobin field grade that had been hunted hard right into the 1970's. Surprisingly, everything was still tight as a drum, despite the fact that it came to me along with what was left of the deceased owner's supply of shells: all high brass duck loads!!!!! (Any Canadians here will remember the wallop from those old purple Imperials!)
