Thanks Daryl I've just not made up my mind what is the best way to go. I have tried my Galco on it and that would work, I'll let you know if I can use your pad.

I have been thinking of using this one to play with some lead bullets so I may be shooting it some. Full house jacketed, not so much ;-).

This rifle was made most likley in 1940. It turned up in Washington state and I suspect it was made for someone with a trip to Alaska in their plans, way to big for Washington.
