I have had Townsend Whelen's Wundhammer 1903 Sporter for a few years and everyone who looks at it ask about the notches cut into the bottom of the buttstock. My response has been that this I could not imagine Whelen cutting notches in his custom rifle and felt that this was after it left his hands. MP Sadly Deceased as of 2/17/2014
