OWD:
The very last line in their addendum says it all. The sideplate inlays were added on. When is anybody's guess. The evidence would suggest that the sideplates were cased apart from the frame since the rest of the frame doesn't show the same bleeding effect. Could this have been done at the factory? Of course, especially since this was an Ithaca assembled gun. They did some things that must have had Dan Lefever rolling in his grave. On the other hand it could have been done 5 years ago.

I am not saying they ripped anybody off. Somebody was obviously satisfied enough to spend some serious cash on this gun. If one is happy with their purchase it would be hard to say anybody was burned.

However, if I had purchased it based on their description and explanation and then had it examined by an unbiased expert who has handled the gun, I would be seriously p*ssed off.

Hi DrBob. I think your last line is the important one. Actually that was part of the weighting to my question/weighting to my initial post. You have to be there and get a second opinion.

You could have even seen in your case that it was right EVEN if you had only seen the photo you had posted..move on...something isn't right.

My only sub point would be that you say the buyer is probably very happy, possible, but anyone that looks at his gun for him and says "wow" in the knowledge that something isn't quite right wouldn't be telling him the truth about it..which is...something isn't right.

Bottom line is, if he/she loves it and fires it, then who the hell am I to say it's not right, it's right!

B999 and SFQ:
Exactly the point I meant to bring across. I would love to attend every auction I was bidding on in person. As far as opinions on Lefevers, SFQ has my very highest regards.
I am sorry that this thread got into a discussion on one particular gun at auction. Its just that I was asked to justify my opinion.
I think that B99 said what I was trying to say rather succinctly. "Watch out for yourself, nobody else is going to do it for you".
