I have been thinking about a nice leather hard case for one of my doubles. Does anyone know where Galazan and Jeff's outfitters cases are made? The photos look nice but putting a finely crafted gun in case made in a 3rd world country just does not sit right with me.
Thanks
Tracy

I am pretty darn sure those cases are made by a seven year old in China. Saying that, I have two and they are great, (cases, not seven year old Chinese kids)!
I am pretty sure that shirt you are wearing right now is made in over there too!

IMHO objecting to country of origin is a false conceit. Galazan, and every company that sources off shore, does so because the market, read you and I, will no longer pay the cost of having it made domestically. It's not Galazan, it's us.
That's why there is a thriving Spanish gun business. Some significant number of consumers decided they were no longer prepared to pay for English guns.
I have been part owner of a factory in North America and have spent time in factories in China. I can tell you from personal observation that some factories in China (haven't been to them all LOL) are light years ahead of some North American factories (ditto) in terms of air quality, general cleanliness, employee safety etc.
How we should be judging products is in the price/quality/value equation, regardless of country of origin. That ensures we as consumers get the best product for the money we can afford or want to spend and it directs the industrial machine effectively.
Don't forget that it is only as they ascend out of subsistence poverty and into the middle class will the vast majority of chinese (and others), with full bellies and a secure home, turn their attention to things we take for granted....health care, the environment, worker safety etc.
When your trying to ensure you and your family don't starve, it's tough to pay attention to the plight of the panda.
Regards,
James

I beleive Jeff told me one time some of his cases were made in Mexico. They are OK and have owned several. Galazan "Best" leather case is not what it is built up to either, I got one a few years ago with a CSMC 21 and it had a nail sticking out of one of the barrel compartments and had extra snap cap holders that were not even secured.

The last cases I bought from Jeff's were made in Mexico. Factory is/was Jatari SA de C.V. in Veracruz. They are a very solid value. All the current Browning cases seem to be from offshore. I just looked at a couple of my Browning cases and they are marked Costa Rica. Beretta cases come mostly from Emmebi in Italy (surprise!). I got a couple of Fabarms cases a few years ago and they were also Emmebi. If you want a mass produced case, it will be from somewhere else. Alternatives would be travel cases like Kalispel or Americase, or a case from one of the boutique domestic makers. Have not noticed any country of origin markings on my Galazan cases.

You could get one made in Maine to be sure of its origin. JC

Consider buying a good used older model. Auctions often have a range of junkers to near new.
