The stock on my Merkel 203E has about a 1/4" too much drop, so I sent it out for a bending. The report back from the gunsmith was that the stock would not take the bend and any more aggressive efforts would likely result in cracking and would not likely achieve a 1/4" change in any event.

This is a sidelock so a new stock would be very expensive and not worth it for this particular gun. I would be curious to hear any thoughts on other options (besides a cheek pad). I recall reading an article by MM about David Trevallion doing a "buttectomy" on a gun to increase the LOP, where the stock was cut through the wrist along the checkering and a new piece of wood was attached. Would it be possible to a variation of that to decrease the drop?
