Does anyone know what the B grade Lefever went for? Or the W. & C. Scott Monte Carlo B?

Rich, I am curious also.
You are probably in a position to know, at least in NY.
What is the liability of an auction house when the description of the item is entirely false? Based on the written description I might have been bidding in the $10,000 + range. However, based on a trusted hands on description I would,' have bid $10.

I was there. The B was a ten dollar gun with a seriously warped frame. Great gun authorities were there discussing the gun, but, regardless, the gun sold for nearly five grand in spirited bidding. I would estimate that at least five bidders carried the gun over three thousand dollars. You could read a book through the space between the flats of the barrels and action. One of the people who had been shown the guns defects was among the bidders I am told. It was some auction with several untouched older British guns.

Whoever bought the W C Scott with the 13 birds should give me a call. I might have a set of good barrels that will fit that W C Scott 12 gauge with the wrecked barrels. I was told that this W C Scott went for about $1600 or so, for another $1600 you can most likely have barrels for it. Good Shooting To You, Jent ---- jentpmitchell@msn.com

Jent,

The W.C. Scott I was wondering about was a Monte Carlo B, circa 1902, not the older Scott with crystal indicators from I guess the 1880s. I doubt the Monte Carlo B had 13 birds. The older Scott did appear to have a bunch of birds. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I think that if you want to buy at a relatively small country auction like this one, you really should go there, as you did, and evaluate things for yourself. Thanks for the info.

My notes tell me the B sold for $5400. Sales tax is 6% for those who pay it. Maybe the new owner plans to spring it back into place and refinish it (again). The bids came from all over the room.

Anybody know who it was who won the B auction? I would like to do a follow-up for the Newsletter. Can a silk purse be made out of a sows ear? Sometimes it can. That is the title of an article in the next LACA Newsletter by Buck Hamlin.

I also attended the Horst auction this past Saturday. I didn't record the sale prices but I do remember a few of them. The price stated in earlier replies for the Lefever BE is correct. I looked at it but was not interested. The two other Lefevers (G and H) went for somewhere between $1100 and $1400, as best I can remember.

The person who bought the two W.C. Scott guns was a few chairs from me and I think he paid in the mid-$2000 range for each. Later today, I will copy the sales bill and once the prices are posted to the web site, I will post both for everyone. I will also post the e-mail and phone number for Horst Auction as well for anyone interested in contacting them.

The Belgium Regina went for about $1400 and I remember the Gibbs 12 gauge going for about $4500. The Charles Daly Lindner 185 sold for $3000 and the Fox CE sold for $3200. The Fox A grade 16 gauge went for about $4600 or so I believe. The best deals of the day appeared to be Fox Sterlingworths. Not sure about the two Parker G shotguns, but I seem to remember around $1200-1400 for each.

Does anyone have an opinion about the Prussian Daly that sold for $3000?

8Bore-

Did you see the Daly? It looked all original & clean.

$3000 seems fair if it was.

You don't see many Lindner boxlocks with original straight grips.
