That's a neat story Possumhunter. If old doubles, no matter how humble, could talk, what stories they could tell.

Best Regards, George

That is a good story, to which I will add a similar one:-

"In 1968 I bought an early Dickson Round Action non-ejector and sold it in 1972.
However after about ten years I regretted selling the gun and endeavoured to replace it, but could never quite get what I wanted.
In February 2002 a friend told me of a non-ejector Round Action for sale and quoted the serial # which I recognised immediately as the gun I once owned.
When the owner heard of my interest in the gun he was quite amenable to my buying it. Sentiment is not good thing to go shopping with, but in the end I purchased.
It is in its original oak and leather case with accessories.
So after 30 years a Round Action comes home."

I paid 200 the second time around. A bit more than I wanted but a lot less than I would have.

Possumhunter,

I think I know how you feel. While I never shot it as a kid, I got the first new gun my dad ever bought (he paid $15 for a 16 ga. Springfield Stevens model 215 SxS hammergun in the early '30's) Dad had sold it to his hunting buddy 60 years ago. I contacted dad's friend (now in his 80's) and asked about the gun. He said if I wanted it, I could have it! Only problem, he had cut off the barrels to shoot rats at the local grain elevator. However the gun patterns 91% of 1 oz. #7-1/2 RGL's in a 30" circle at 20 yards and is really fun to shoot. It is one gun that will never be for sale as long as I'm still breathing.

Lovely story. Non-gunners cannot ever understand the emotions that are invested in certain guns. How the sale of a gun 30 years ago can still bring a pang of regret mixed with desire, how the fashioning of steel and wood can be poetry. Many Thanks for the story.
