I once watched a famous gunsmith install new screws in a double gun. Once qualified, he removed them, put them in a vise one at a time, and "engraved" them with a file. It took him about thirty seconds per screw. He had obviously done it many times before.

I had my Greener in for rejointing with a well known 'smith. While he had it I asked him to repair/replace a few boogered screws and have engraved a replacement breech pin. He simply reslotted the screws with a file that seemed a mile wide and "engraved" the screw heads with a file. Looked like crap. Hell, I coulda done that. Anyway, he did alright on the jointing. Someone else fixed it right later but I was sure pissed. If the screws don't look right it seems to ruin the look of the gun.

Steven, I guess Hammergun guy explained how "engraving" is done with a file. Think of a wheel with about twelve spokes.
