It's possible that a previous owner has dry-fired it and burred the chamber's edge and then filed off the burr. This will leave a cavity beneath the cartridge rim where the firing pin strikes and thus provide little or no support for the firing pin to pinch the rim. If this is true then you'll probably need a reline of at least the chamber or its rim area. Check the actual firing pin nose protrusion, it should be at least 0.030" but not over 0.040". Many of these old 'boy's rifles' also have developed excessive headspace, IMO it would be worthwhile to have that checked as well.
