I am new to double guns and I need an answer. What is considered a safe ideal trigger pull weight on a S/S? Should the rear trigger weight be higher than the front?

I like both the same, 3.5 to 4 lbs. When shooting doubles on skeet, coming from a light trigger to a stronger one makes me freeze and then jerk the muzzle down.

I'm with Jim on this one.

However, tradition states that the rear or '2nd' trigger is heavier by 1/2 to 1 lb pull. This makes little sense to me as one should use the triggers in the order that the target(s) dictate, although many shooters don't!
I usually regulate my stock guns to 3-4 & 3 1/2-5lb, my own around 3-4 on both. If I can't feel the difference in the workshop I don't worry about it!

The only possible justification for regulating pulls differently is the different feel of the triggers caused by different hand and finger position in relation to the two triggers. Many claim to move their hand back for the rear trigger to remove/reduce this factor, I don't think I do. However, in which direction one should take the regulation is another whole bag of worms.

Another issue is the direction of force on the trigger in relation to the sear. A front trigger is much closer to its pivot point than the rear so that the finger pressure on the front trigger is more closely conforming to an orbit around the pivot.

The finger on the rear trigger pulls more backwards on the trigger blade so I suppose that more pull would be required to exert the same lift on the sear nose out of the bent.

Hey, what do I know, I only fix the things!
