Bet'cha there wasn't a thief involved but plain old sloppy work and it was laying in a corner ignored. No thief is gonna say, "oh yeah, I stole it but here it is.....sorry."
I also love happy endings.

Thanks guys. If anything flagged it as to what it was it was the address. The label read __-_-__-gunstocks. anybody could have figured it was a gun. It was not the whole gun though, just the side plates and receiver and a big old plank of AAA wood..
As far as what I will do now. Don't know. I'll think about it once it gets home, I'll be a believer if it gets here by saturday. Once the dust settles I'll do something with it.

Thanks for all your great advice and of course your shared jubilation. This is a great place.

The motive for stealing a receiver and stock is pretty much nill. I suspect it got mis-routed and shoved off in a corner and forgotten about or sent to a freight astray holding center.
As far as competent Government employees it is pretty much dependant upon the Branch of Government you are looking at. Department of Defense, The Treasury, FBI and CIA are pretty consistently excellent. The other Branches have centers of excellence as well with some having more than others.

Glad they found your gun. I bet someone finally took the time to manually step by step trace the gun. If you had shipped with a carier that was not stuck in the stone age you could have tracked it your self from anyplace with internet access. I still think USPS is proly the most secure but there tracking sucks and when a package goes missing and you have a customer calling hourly it is nice to have up todate tracking info.

Thank God! My heart sank when I read your original post, as I'm sure all the members here experienced as well. Very easy to put oneself in that place and empathize. So good to hear a happy ending!

I do not recall Mike Orlen's shipping address but I recall that it did not sound like a gunsmith. Second day UPS has always worked well for me. Although I have used the three day ground.
