The weather has improved somewhat so I'm back to the rifle range.
On the 14th I was shooting the Niedner-Baker-Borchardt .25-Krag, the one with the cocking knob.

All the loads were the same except the seating depth of the bullet.

I fired a couple for foulers at another target then fired what you see here. All at 100 yards. Scope is about ten power Fecker that I have had for decades.

Look at No. 3 went to over three inches vertically, this is not from .010" of bullet seating. More to come.

Normally when I see that sort of stringing it's because I'm not resting the forearm in the same place.

My rest is built for a forend stop for a bolt gun so I made a longer one that I could adjust for the Borchardt.

This is today, No 3 again??????????? No Wind, dead calm.

Had something similiar in a BR match once and the objective lense had came loose on my new Unertal scope. I would suspect the sighting system

Tom, I pulled the Fecker off and will try a Unertl I have, I'll report back.

Check to make sure the scope blocks are tight.

Mike, is there any possibility that your case necks are not sealing properly?

Thanks I did check them and they are tight. Just back from the range, first morning of frost..

Six five-shot groups at 100 yards average around .880". I fired one group off the barrel and that one vertical strung them out but not bad. I'll take it slow and change one thing at a time and see how it goes.

A good question,I have segregated any brass that seem a little tight and run it back through the Niedner die. This rifle chamber is cut so the cases are not re-sized. I de and recap with a Pope type re-decapper load powder and seat a bullet. I've been playing with the seating depth and resting the forearm at different places.

This rifle averages around 1-MOA and IMO it should be about half that, the work continues.

Yesterday it was 95F here, down from 98F the day before. Today it'll only(!) hit 93. Next week we have a cold front coming in, it'll actually get down into the 80s then. I usually begin shooting around Columbus Day, at least on cooler days I do, and can continue shooting until around Memorial Day most years.

Michael, have you ever tried the Harvey Donaldson case-sorting method? It requires a rifle of known accuracy level and yours appears to fit the description.

He loaded all his cases with the same load and then fired them into the same group over a long, long period of many hours. Each case that resulted in a shot outside the group was segregated and became practice and fouling cases, the others landing inside the group were match cases. Food for thought anyway.

It was a cool 28 when I started shooting this morning, time to pick my apples.

I culled my brass early on which was all the Winchester brass.

For fun I loaded up ten rounds of the Winchester brass and fired two five-shot groups at 100 yards with it today. 1.590 & 1.90 back to reject box for them. All the vertical stringing was with the good Remington brass.
