I don't believe stock fitting is a cure for poor technique or lack of physical prowess, but I personally benfitted greatly from not having to crawl over the stock so as to look straight down the rib. I have used Mike Orlen for stock bending as well, with good results.

PA24....Quote...."Hunted all over the world with them and always hit what I shot at"
.....
are we to assume then, that you have never missed anything you shot at, all over the whole wide world???
Bullshit
I believe even Earl D'Grey (SIC ?)missed the odd one.
If so I believe you must be the best shot in the whole wide world,,,ever...right?.....Magic indeed.
Personally , I think it worth while to have all your Guns spec's
as close as possible,,,,I don't know what 3/16" off the mark equates to @ 40 yds...but it must be a fair bit, no???
But I'm no magician, & need all the help I can get
Franc

I once had a stock maker tell me that 90 % of folks could shoot most game pretty well with guns that were 14.5" LOP, 1 1/2" DAC and 2 1/2" DAH and no cast. I think he probably wasn't far from the mark.

Pardon me, but any guy who crawls (inclines head over comb to center eye laterally or crawls forward to elevate cheek and by extension eye) darn well is aware that he's adapting to a stock that doesn't fit him and he probably knows the terms cast and drop and what they mean so he DOES NOTICE in his cavalier way. Adjusting cast and drop is simply orthodoxy for the Brits; this untutored Dan'l Boone thing is an American tall tale. There may be some narrow combed guns with the "average" drop at face that allow many to see down the rib and shoot them reasonably well but don't be put off getting help in the way of stock adjustment because someone needs to yarn about his natural shooting ability.

Is this still going? It looks like a flame war from other sorts of forums...each to their own...as discussed and it appears to be a cyclical argument now people have differing abilities and some can pick up a gun and others can't. Leave it at that...if you feel you need a gun fitted...do it.
