I must disagree I am a pretty high volume shooter. Some people can shoot those stocks and some can't. Usually people just come away with the opinion that "I just can't shoot a SXS. My shooting with a SXS really improved when I got something that fit. Caveat I have unusual dimensions. I will NEVER have a target O/U that does not have an adjustable comb.

I must admit that I have never tried the "BRASS RING" approach.

You can't forget about the beads, HomelessjOe. When you shoot trap you align the beads before you lock the gun on your head. Having the beads aligned only 1/16" off when you mount the gun can mean several feet off by the time it gets to the target. And you have to know where the beads are going to be when you shoulder a hunting gun without looking at them. This is why you have to know where and how the gun shoots through practicing with it. That is why a lot of people can pick up just about any gun and shoot it well even though the rule says the gun should fit them....P.S. And by the way, Tom Knapp will replace Dave Gruber as the host on Benelli's American Bird Hunter this season. He didn't get there by being "another" retard.

You usually do, joe. But I am retired. Hunt, shoot clays, go to guns shows, watch outdoor shows on TV. What a life.

"What a life"...I agree, sounds alot like mine.
We have alot in common except I don't watch Tv very much.
For some excitement try some low gun trap without your head locked on.

You don't hold a low gun when you shoot trap. Maybe skeet or SC. I wouldn't want to practice something at trap I would never use in competition. But, I do see a lot of interesting things on TV. Steve Smith on the Beretta show was showing about hunting with I/C and Cyl. shotguns when hunting quail. He uses a 20 gauge O/U. That's the combination I use when I hunt pheasant with a 12 gauge but I would think more people would use a little tighter choke when using a 20 on quail.

I try to keep my clay target guns and live bird guns fairly close in terms of key stock dems. All are fairly high; all are cast off slightly and all are relatively long. That said, in early August, I put away the target guns and shoot all clay bird games with a bird gun. If you are going to have a stock made for a gun, make sure it is a "keeper", because you are unlikely to recover the cost.

Solutions are out there. It depends on how little or how much you'll settle for.

FWIW, my el-cheapo method has been to make a simple leather pad which I cut in a manner so it can be fitted over the comb and laced at the bottom. Then I repair to our range on a quiet day, select yardage and fire at a stationary clay bird placed on a steep bank. Spare pieces of leather -- running from thin to thick -- are then placed between the comb and pad until I get where I want to be. These pieces are usually 2-3 inches in width and are completely covered by the outer pad. Modest left-right adjustments are sometimes also possible with this set-up. Sometimes, too, at this point, I'll remove the inserts and sand/taper them to blend more evenly with the stock when the outer leather is laced tight.

I have two or three of these in use all the time. Granted, they disturb the aesthetics of the stock, but I find myself unwilling to remove them often because they get the job done.
