The "on" side of the horse is the side you mount from. Horse don't like it if you do otherwise. Since you don't usually dismount on the right side, it's the "nono" side. Right horse of a team is the "off" horse. Horse you're on is "your" horse. Center horse of troika is called "center" horse. If you fall off that's "unhorsed". If the horse ends up on top, that's "painful". Horse with handles is called "pommel horse" except when the handle's on the saddle in which case only one handle. If the handle was on a boat, it'd be a "Sampson post". More farmers go into gunmaking than do sailors but a doublegun does have a "keel". You can "turn on" a horse with crop, whip, or switch but probably not off. Knowing what to feed your horse is "etiology". Gee Haw Whoa.
