As far as I know the Germans took everything they could as they did for virtually everything in France, whether potatoes, wheat, coal, machinery, workers, etc...
That was certainly true in the "occupied" zone in 1940 to 1942 and everywhere else after 1942.
Eventually, the GIs took most of the guns back to the USA.
There are probably more pre-war French guns in US than in France.
The fact that this gun is Suhl proofed is a perfect example of that two-legged exodus, as it was made in the 1907 time frame.
Most of what was buried did not survive well at all.
