Mike Orlen, Dennis Earl Smith, JJ Perodeau, J. David Yale all have excellent reputations for this kind of work, I'm sure any of these gifted fellows would do you well.

I am building my "setting table" now, thanks to the helpful instructions a friend sent me. So far, my only experience is building the setting table. I'll report later on how it goes.

Jim , I've bent five stocks now , and tonight I cracked the first one { mine ] . It was a 1873 Remington lifter - I believe it had been restocked years ago - a nice job , but now I see the grain along the top of the wrist was going up - not following the shape of the stock . Had I noticed this before hand I might have not tried it . The break wasn't that bad - should have it fixed in a day or two - just glad it happened to one of my own . Experience is a wonderful thing . Paul

Paul, Are you going to reinforce the glue joint with a dowel or other insert? I'm interested in how you guys do repairs.

Chuck (and Paul), you may want to look here: http://www.stockfixrs.comThey are a father-son team, one an engineer, who have made a science of these repairs. Fortunately I haven't needed their services but appreciate the info they share on-line.

Chuck , the break was on the top between the tang and left lock . It's now back togeather , but I will use a 6-32 allen head set screw [ no head ] to re-enforce and a little acraglas with dye to hide it . My good friend fixed a lifter Parker he just bought - took the stock off and it was in five pieces . After degreasing he added a lot of super-glue to strenghten the wood , agraglas the parts togeather , and used 6-32 set screws acraglased in and acraglas on top to hide them . Because mine wasn't oil soaked , I used Titebond 2 for a glue . It's what we use when laminating recurve or longbows togeather. Paul

Tried out my new setting table this AM. First stock is cooling off in the clamps. Will report back this evening. I'm very excited about this. It bent rather easily and did not break, yet. I can't remember who sent me the great instructions and pictures. If you will acknowledge here, I'd like to thank you again for the great help. JL
