Someone brought this up to me and I didn't have a good answer. Hoping someone can inform me.
Occasionally we see a nice old field grade double, Fox, Parker or something along those lines, where someone has foolishly blued the receiver.
Any way to remove the bluing and get back some kind of reasonable finish more in line with what the makers intended without going the whole route of re-case hardening?
I don't mean something that is faking the colours (can you say torch job?) I just mean something reasonable.

Car body rust remover is supposed to remove bluing. Try it on a 1~4 inch square area first though.

Bluing a receiver isn't so bad. It's usually the buffing that goes along with it that sucks.

naval jelly. steel wool. or you can soak it in vinegar then rinse and blow dry with a hair dryer.

Removing it with a tiny buff (Dremel)in a way that looks like worn case color can look pretty good.

The same guys that will "foolishly blue a receiver" are the same ones that will hot blue SxS barrels or do something else foolish.....to me it's a flag to stay away from the gun no matter how great the deal sounds.

toilet bowl cleaner works and is not too strong like navel jelly or auto rust remover. Try a little on some hidden part of frame to test.
