I don't think I've seen an F with the frame around the game but the post-1900 guns do have more scratching. Took my FE this morning for skeet but light rain led to the use of the 1100 boingaboinga gun. I did go out to station 2 with two shells and shot the singles. Burned em both; first time I've shot this gun; right barrel choked 25 points. Nice high comb which differs considerably from the G I'm used to. This is the first damascus gun of the three I've owned which I shot without pulling the string from a distance on the first few. Guess I'm over my phobia. Puller is a friend who walked away calling me a fool couple years ago when I bought a SAC damascus double in Baltimore. He didn't seem to have much problem standing behind me today so I'd say he used to think I needed a keeper and now thinks I don't--equally bad assumptions on his part.

My FE (1904) has a circular "frame" around a duck on one side and a woodcock (I think) on the other. The engraving on this gun is almost as extensive as that on a E from four years earlier. TT

rabbit, When I first got that FE years ago I took it out and shot a round of low gun skeet with 8000 psi 1 oz reloads. I think it will hold up fine! I broke a 21 as I recall and was pretty happy considering the chokes. Hope you are well,
Fritz

Hey Fritz:
Nothing that hot thru it as the Nitro 100 reloads I'm using shouldn't produce above 5500 psi. Didn't use the tighter left barrel for a couple of singles of course. The relatively high comb and neutral or just slightly on cast is, as I said, a change from the one I've been shooting but I must be looking over center and seeing enuf rib as think I centered both targets. Mike Orlen had a look, polished up the bores a bit and opened the choke in the left. I puddled some Oxpho on the lock plates and a bit on the fences and underbelly; otherwise pretty much the same gun. Taking one thing with another as old Garwood liked to say, I also am very happy with it.

PS: I think I was wrong about the choking; I just checked my Excel spreadsheet and it says 18 points in the right barrel.

My FE ca 1901, #38025, does not have the oval frame around it's game scenes. Duck on right plate "Bird" on left (That's a bobwhite quail to ya'll yanks) each flying over appropriate habitat.

The engraving on that E looks very similar to that on my pivot lever E SN 10,515. Prior to about 1890/92 F was Lefever's lowest grade. Best as I can recall a thumb push F I looked at a number of years ago was only line engraved.

I absolutely LOVE Lefevers. Found an auction with some nice ones a week or so ago. Couldn't afford any of the guns, that said there were some good buys. BE sold for a bit over 3 grand, really nice F, EE and Nichols and Lefever all sold for $1K-mid $2K. Someday...
