Anything that "clear coats" will protect corrosion film (blueing/blacking, browning, or case colors) finish. The issue is to "sacrafice" something other than the corrosion film to normal handling and use abrasive wear. Whatever you coat with, from wax to oil to lacquor, will need to be refreshed periodically due to wear.

You can get true nitro cellulous lacquer from a luthier supply house in aerosol.
