"Antique" has a very specific legal meaning in terms of most firearms regulations. "Antique" refers to a rifle, shotgun, or handgun manufactured prior to 1899. Antique rifles, shotguns, and handguns are not considered "firearms" by most Federal and state firearms regulations and are exempted from them. Of course, New Jersey and several similar states do not recognize this exemption.
In any case, M-1 Garands and M-1 carbines are unfortunately not legally "Antiques".
