I traded today for a very nice James Purdey Bar-in-Wood 12 bore thumbhole underlever latch hammergun. One of the hammers is a replacement that doesn't quite match the other original one.

Does anyone here have an idea where to find a matching replacement?

Best Regards, George

George, it would have to be built. I believe Briley will do that work - or at one time did.

Surely these chaps could help.

George:
Purdey is indeed the place to go if you care about the gun looking right. It may not be the "budget fix" but at least it will be the proper one. And... as you've obviously convinced yourself, a good Purdey is worth it.

Since you're in SC, why not bring the gun up to Vintagers this Month? Purdeys may be there (although not currently listed) and can best advise.

Best, Kensal

But also give Briley a call. They have copied and repaired a couple of unique broken parts me over the years. If they still do that sort of work, they'll build a clone of whichever is the correct hammer. It won't be a Purdey repair, but it will be undetectable, and you will have it back in a fraction of the time and a lot less cost. On the other hand, by having Purdey do it, you will have a lovely receipt on their letterhead.
