Mr. Campbell, that is one exquisite stock! Bravo sir! Thanks! It is purty, ain't it? the other side is the same. Thanks for the replies fellas. The LOP is okay where it is. I personally prefer pads over checkered butts simply because they feel better when I mount and shoot. I like the thickness of that that pad, Mike. Can that be had in orange?
Adam I don't think so. But Galazan (CSMC) sells a red-orange Winchester repro that's solid, non-squishy rubber. I put one on a model 12 redo and liked it very much.

I'm with Mike on this one. I think Pachmayr now also has a red pad. I have tried some others but always come back to Decelerators. Besides the real reasons Mike stated, a "self" butt looks like a cheap air rifle stock, to me. (JMO)

They do come in red that ages well, and turns orange. Here is one I put on my hunting rifle.

From Pachmyer's website:
D752B Pad Specifications* Color: Black, Brown, Red or Green Black base only Sizes: Small, Medium, Large, XL and Youth (Red and Green - medium 1" only)
Looks like you can't get the .6" in Red.

That was kind of my suspicion. On a slim, trim lightweight gun where recoil absorption isn't needed I like the looks of a thin pad. I wonder if there's a version of the red Winchester repro with no logo? I also like the plain, but somewhat hard, black rubber pad that comes on some factory Browning O/U's but I haven't seen an aftermarket equivalent.

You can grind off the logo, and face it with leather if it offends thee.

If you must monkey with that gun, Galazan has a reddish brown hard rubber pad in 1/2" thickness. Jeff's used to sell it as well, but no longer. I think you can also get it from Brownell's. The maker's label on the inside of the backing plate is "B.M.R."
How about a simple butt plate, such as the one CSMC uses on the RBL? That way you won't have to shorten the stock as much to retain LOP.
I have one of the reproduction Winchester 1922 Patent Date Pads (probably from Galazan, but I forget) on a Parker VH 20, with the Win info ground off, and it looks fine on that gun. Only did it to increase length of pull, and stock still has the original curvature.

It is purty, ain't it? the other side is the same If you like Harlem grade wood on a Field Grade Sterlingworth, with a big fat BTFE........never mind the butt ugly eraser......very ghetto indeed, must be a New Yawk thing...... Looks like what it is, a very poorly over done garish re-wooded gun that has been butchered.......it only needs Ed Landers special touch to be Somalia ready...... This same guy makes 'Rube Goldberg' repairs on internal parts, has broken hammers welded at their weakest point, etc........could you imagine buying a gun from this clown...?.... IT IS PURTY, AIN'T IT?

That from a guy who can't tell a SW from a graded gun....doesn't know a beavertail from a splinter.... but sure knows when he's found a 98% original, almost-a-virgin SW that only needs his tender loving refinish to make it 100% again.
I apologize, Adam, for the minor sidetrack to address an inconsequential distraction.

I really like the little Pachmyr rifle pad that is only .400" thick.
